Description (Taken from https://escapeboats.ie/)
The original, legendary Escape Boat game. You and your team are trapped on an abandoned, crippled boat. Your mission is to gather information, repair the boat and escape – before it’s too late! Solve the puzzles, uncover mysteries, gather clues – and enjoy Ireland’s top rated escape room experience.
I’M ON A BOAT
I don’t think there is a better first room to start an Escape Room Review blog than Escape Boat’s SOS. This will probably be the most unique and immersive game we will play for the foreseeable future. I mean how can you beat escaping a freaking boat! This is a smaller scale room and you will have to be able to maneuver pretty well in smaller spaces, so if you don’t have any medical problems that prevent you from crawling/ducking/squeezing through small openings then this is the MUST DO room in Dublin!
Puzzles/Gameplay
Escape Boats does a very good job of making each of their puzzles go hand in hand with the theme and story of their room. At first, you solve a series of puzzles to repair the boat in order to contact someone on the outside that you are trapped. After you fix the boat, you then try to contact someone using a radio and Morse Code before entering the final and most exciting part of the whole room. This is where you try to actually escape the boat before the boat goes under (If you haven’t played the room and are reading this, don’t worry, you did not break the room). All the puzzles were fairly straightforward and nothing should aggravate you. If you There was never a dull moment in the room and we had fun straight through.
Immersion Taken to the Next Level
You really can’t beat a boat themed room when you are in actual boat! This is immersion on a whole other level and SOS fully takes advantage of it. As you go through the first two acts of the room, you really appreciate everything that was done to make an escape room on a boat, but once you enter the final act of this room, you will understand why this is truly an unique experience. We obviously do not want spoil anything, but be prepared to experience something that you will not find in any other escape room in the world. If you are tall, then prepare to crouch and duck for most of your time in this room because as mentioned before, this is a small boat so there isn’t much room.
Verdict
After 65 rooms, this might be the most immersive game we have done so far. Completely submerging ourselves in a boat really enhances the experience. Being agile is very important as the boat is on the smaller side. The puzzles in the room were fairly linear but all went well with the story and nothing seemed out of place. The ending and final room is something we will probably never forget! We were treated great by our GM and are hoping to come back soon to try their other room with friends. If you are in Dublin, make Escape Boats your number 1 escape room destination!
